How fees work

Plain answers before you book, in the order people ask them.

  • Insurance we work with

I am out of network with insurance plans, and I don't bill them. Some plans pay part of an out-of-network visit, and many don't cover acupuncture at all.

    • I don't bill insurance plans directly

    • Some plans with an acupuncture benefit pay part of a visit

    • Ask your plan before you book

  • If you pay yourself

You pay at each visit by card. The fee depends on how long the visit is and what we do, and I give it to you in writing before you book. For an HSA or FSA card, ask your plan administrator whether it works for acupuncture.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

After each visit I can give you an itemized receipt, called a superbill, to send to your plan. Your plan may pay you back for part of it, and the plan decides.

    • Is there an acupuncture benefit?

    • How many visits does it cover?

    • Is there a copay or a deductible?

    • Do I need a referral?

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written good faith estimate of what your care will cost before you start. I give you one before your first visit. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

  • Checking your benefits

I don't call your plan for you. Before your first visit, ask it the four questions above and tell me what it says. I will go over your receipt with you.

  • What the first visit includes

About 75 minutes: a talk about your care team and everything you take, a look at your tongue and pulse, a treatment, and a short plan. I explain the risks and answer your questions before any needle goes in. The fee for the first visit is on your estimate.

Four questions for your plan

Before you book, ask your plan

These tell you what a receipt from me could earn back.

  • 01

    Is there an acupuncture benefit?

Some plans cover it, some cover it with a referral, and some do not.

  • 02

How many visits does it cover?

Many plans set a limit for the year.

  • 03

Is there a copay or a deductible?

Ask what you pay at each visit and how much of your deductible is left.

  • 04

    Do I need a referral?

Some plans want a letter from your doctor first.

Questions about cost?

Ask when you book. I would rather you know before you come.
